Diet Pills – All About Over-the-Counter Supplements

Diet pill might be the easiest solution for weight loss. But, of course, one still has to combine these supplements with the right eating habits and regular exercise – there’s no easy route in losing weight. Patience and determination are crucial for a successful weight loss goal, but when combined with the right supplement, you can certainly expect great results. From herbal to chemical, over-the-counter pills are all the rage these days because of their relative accessibility. You’re safe, just as long as there are caveats.

Ephedrine

One of the most popular, albeit dangerous, diet pills still in the market today is ephedrine. Supplements with this content are banned by the FDA due to the chemical’s inherent ability to cause several adverse symptoms, including death. From its humble beginnings as a component of asthma medications to famously riveting the health community, ephedrine has been a well-known easy route to weight loss.

Ephedrine helps decrease appetite on the expense of health irregularities, including high blood pressure, severe heart conditions, seizures, insomnia, nervousness and tremors, among others. Although it has been banned by the FDA, there are still several diet supplements that carry ephedrine in them, which is why you should be very careful of avoiding such weight loss “helpers.”

Herbal or Natural

These types of diet pills are commonly derived from plants. One of the most popular kind herbal diet supplements is hoodia gordonii. Known for having an exceptional ability to curb appetite, the plant is causing frenzy in the weight loss industry nowadays. Hoodia gordonii has been used by African tribesmen during their long hunting trips in order to aid them in staving off hunger and last longer in the field. Away from Africa, however, the plant is available in capsule form, which anybody can buy from the nearest drug store or through the internet.

Fortunately, though, hoodia gordonii supplements, and the plan in general, has been found not to cause any adverse reactions to the body. Its gift for suppressing appetite without giving side effects is probably the main reason why hoodia is so popular to those trying to lose weight.

PPA

Another popular OTC diet pill in the market is phenylpropanolamine or PPA. There are several commercial supplements that carry this component and all are known to suppress appetite. Unfortunately, like ephedrine, the FDA advised consumers against the use of supplements with PPA because the component is linked to the increased risk of brain hemorrhaging. Although there may still be products in the market with PPA, you should better avoid them.
