Can Massages Cure My Aching Back?

The idea of having a soothing massage sounds great! Someone gently massaging your back while you are comfortable lying in a warm dimly light room with maybe some soft music can be a wonderful relaxing experience. But can massage therapy really cure my back pain? The answer is maybe.

Massage therapy can work wonders for people with back pain. But It may not always be the best choice, and it may not work for everyone. Below are some things to consider when deciding if massage therapy is right for you.

1. Before beginning a massage therapy make sure your doctor has approve it. Most doctors will agree to massage providing the massage therapist is specifically trained to treat back problems and if you problem is a simple muscular conditon and not a more serious situation.

2. Massage therapy works best if the cause of your aching back is damage to soft tissue (Muscle pull). More serious problems like a herniated disc will not respond well may respond well to massage and good even be harmful.

3. Make sure the massage therapist  has a good understanding of the human body, muscle imbalances, and how to work with them. If your doctor approves of massage therapy chances are he or she knows of a competent massage specialist.

4. Massage therapy should not be the only treatment option but should be used in conjunction with other treatments ie: physical therapy and medication. Of course it goes without saying that if you experience any pain and or discomfort stop the treatment and contact your doctor.

There is no denying the positive effects massage can have on the body. Most massage therapists use a variety of techniques during a session, such as energy techniques and stretching, along with traditional massage. On it’s own massage therapy is not a cure for a bad back. But when combined with other natural treatment programs and systems can be very beneficial.

One of the top rated programs is called the Lose The Back Pain System developed by therapists and doctors of the Healthy Back Institute. Working with your doctor and combining massage with a proven program such as “Lose The Back Pain” can be a very good way to relieve your back pain and prevent it from returning. The Lose the Back Pain System has helped thousands by strengthening muscles and eliminating muscles imbalance. Muscular imbalance is at the root of most back pain.

Dieting With Pills Yields Positive Results

Who could have predicted that we would spend billions of dollars each year on diet pills? Yes, billions. These tiny little capsules, powders, juices and patches, that we are so certain provide the absolute cure for a thin, slender body, rake in substantial amounts of money each year and have very little regulation. They are as varied as diets on the market and provide everything from fat burning and weight loss, to increased energy, sex drive, more youthful skin, metabolism boosters and appetite suppression.

The most recent breakout on the diet pill scene is Alli. It’s a first, as it’s the only one available without a prescription stamped with an FDA approval. It’s the lesser-dose sister of Xenical, a prescription diet pill that’s only available from your doctor for obese individuals. Those taking Xenical, must have physician clearance and be committed to a diet low in calories and fat. Xenical and Alli both use the active ingredient Orlistat.

If you’ll remember, Orlistat was the popular food additive in the 90s that was linked with serious bowel problems. The WOW! brand potato chips being the most popular of those products. Many diet pills have side effects, many due to the high doses of caffeine they contain, like racing heart, nausea and the jitters. Alli and Xenical have side effects like uncontrolled gas, urination and bowel movements. This is preventable when you stick to the recommended diet guidelines.

Alli and Xenical, unlike many diet pills, are not solely responsible for weight loss. Both require you stick to a low-fat, low-calorie diet. When you manage what you’re eating, Alli and Xenical can help you shed about 50% more weight than when you’re solely following a diet. How does that work? The active ingredient Orlistat makes it so that the body is not able to digest about a 25% of the fat you’re eating. Blocking the absorption of these fats makes it possible to lose weight. And since you’re already eating a low-fat diet, 75% that gets through is a much smaller number.

If you’ve ever visited a Web site for a diet pill, they usually look like giant tabloid advertisements and typically leave visitors with more questions than they do answers. The Alli site is quite different- once again sticking out as a clear leader in the diet pill industry. The Alli Web site offers journals, calorie counters, meal planners and grocery lists and a community to converse with other Alli users.

Alli seems to be the most reliable diet pill on the market. It’s managed to stay fairly clear of the usual controversy and has the FDA approval, which none of its competitors can claim. With all of the yo-yo approvals for Ephedra and Ephedrine and the questionable “certified” Hoodia floating around- people should definitely question any supplement they’re thinking about using

HELP! Face Eczema, IMAGES INCLUDED?

Ok, this is a bit long but it will only takes about 5 minutes of your time, I really need help on this problem, thank you! :(

I had been applying steroid cream for a long perioid, and then on and off use for 4 years, and 6 weeks ago I decided to stop using those cream because it has worsen my condition, and making my face sensitive to the sun (I guess my skin has been thinned). I vowed to myself I’m not going to use back hyrodocortisone or any steroid cream anymore. I’ve spent a fortune for this problem and been to many dermatologists and ended up transferred to a senior skin specialist dermatologist, one of the best in my area but still pretty useless. My table has a big pack of prescription creams to the point that I think I can open a pharmacy. I’ve also tried Elidel and Protopic but it didn’t help.

Anyway, lo and behold when the moment I stopped using the steroid 6 weeks ago, I suddenly had a left rash small patch appearing on around my left smile line area, and one big patch on my right. So I went cold turkey for 2 weeks and cleansed my face with only water. During that period the areas were flaking and dry, and by the end of that 2 weeks I finally washed it with a gentle soap, Cetaphil, and I realised the small patch of rash on the left side got cleared itself, but, the right big patch of rash was still, damn red, painful, peeling, and itchy. I did a research and found out that the real Aloe Vera plant might help the condition so I tried and after one application it took away the pain. But the redness, itchiness and peeling were still there. So my aunt’s friend passed me a bottle of enzymes, made out of natural ingredient and I applied it for a week, and the rash went off. Then, another one appeared around my mouth, so I applied that enzymes and it week off after a week. Then this time, a rash appeared on my right cheek and also a light rash on my right chest, so I thought this time the enzymes would help but after 5 days of applying that thing, the rash on right cheek and my chest became more, so I freaked out and stop the using the enzymes water.

I didn’t take a picture of my chest, but I took a picture of my right cheek: http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/6934/rashhy6.jpg

Then I googled and deicded to try out this cream called California Baby Calendula Cream, I read many positive reviews so I decided to give it a try.

After a week I guess it healed my condition, the rash on my chest almost disappeared and now my right cheek look like this: http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/6491/photo2339in2.jpg

BUT recently on the 24th of Dec, Christmas eve, my LEFT CHEEK gotten 2 rash that looks like “mosquito bite and kind of pimple” so I thought maybe the calendula cream would help since it healed my right cheek problem.

But after 3 days, today, the rash increased to 6 :(

My left cheek: http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/5418/photo2350ec9.jpg

By the way, I’ve been on this “detox diet” for 6 weeks already, I’ve stop eating eating meat and poultry. I only take one meal a day which consist 1 plate of brown rice, and 3 serves of spinach and broccoli, and 2 fruits. I’d take fish at most twice a week though because it has the omega 3 thing. I’ve also been drinking only water, 12 glasses a day. I used to sh*t twice a week but ever since I started out this “detox diet” I’ve been sh*tting everyday. Yes, it does help to clean my bowel and liver but I still don’t understand why am I still getting this crap on my face. But I must admit did give in to diary products during Christmas eve by eating the log cake and chocolates etc, so I suspect maybe this is why now my left cheek are having this problem. But do you think I should continue with the calendula cream?

Also, I came across this question, a lady who had the similiar condition as mine and decided to give up using steroid cream because it ain’t doing any good,

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnnbGI7NNBKjcnvtqKfx.xHsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080705070028AAU4tGm

So I sent her a message and asked whether she has found any solution to overcome the problem and this is what she replied,

http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/6144/kelsovi9.jpg

After reading her message, I suddenly remembered during the period when I gone cold turkey for 2 weeks and that first small patch of rash on my left smile line disappeared itself. I went on and replied her message to ask more questions during her cold turkey period but till now, after a week she still hasn’t reply. I guess she hardly log into her yahoo mail but I’m still praying hard for her to reply my questions. So in the mean time I decided to post my problem here and hope that you guys would give me advise on what should I do next.

Main question: Should I continue with the calendula cream OR go cold turkey again?
By the way, I came across this site with two information links about cold turkey is the best cure for effects of steroid abuse.

P.S. I’m allergic to a fragrance called Lyral so therefore I have not been putting any makeup on my face since the a flare-up I had during 2006. And this year I did IgE blood test and food allergy blood test. My IgE stated 73 IU/ML, I’ve checked with the laboratory person and he said that any number that’s under than 87 is normal. I’m also not allergic to any seafood or diary products.

P.S.S. Please don’t suggest other creams that contains Petroleum, Mineral Oil, and Paraffin because I’ve had bad experience with moisturizer cream that have all these ingredients. I found out that those ingredients actually form an oily film that sits on top of the skin, preventing moisture from evaporating. It has a drying effect, it actually suck out the moisture of your lips/skin, which is why you have to constantly reapplying it.

Some Effective Natural Cure for Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin disease which causes patches of thick, red skin covered with silvery scales. Itching and burning accompanied by pain are the common symptoms of psoriatic skin. The inflammations are observed mostly on the hands and legs, but they could spread to the fingernails, the toenails and even to the mouth and the genitalia.

In complicated form, psoriasis may cause pain in the joints and cracked skin. If there is an injury or a insect bite in the affected part, then there could be severe pain and aggravation, accompanied by bleeding.

Causes of psoriasis are not properly known. There may be a family prevalence of the disease, as 33% of psoriatic patients have another close family member suffering from the same disease. It may be due to viral and bacterial infections, obesity, remaining away from sunlight for long periods of time, stress, cold climate, abrasions on the skin and even alcohol consumption and smoking.

In Ayurveda, diseases such as Eka-kushta, Kitiba-kushta and Sidma-kushta are quite alike to the condition of psoriasis. These are vata vitiations. Treatment is through a very carefully prescribed dietary regimen and drug therapy.

(1) Useful Herbs in the Treatment of Psoriasis

- Black Nightshade (Solanum nigrum)

The juice of the leaves of the black nightshade can be applied locally on the affected regions. It helps in reducing the inflammation of the skin, and also has beneficial properties in allaying the pain and the itch.

- Garlic (Allium sativum)

Garlic is a blood purifier. Eating a few cloves of garlic every morning on an empty stomach filters the toxins out of the blood and provides protection against psoriasis.

- Jasmine (Jasminum polyanthum)

The flowers of the jasmine have good effects in the treatment of psoriasis. The flowers are crushed, made into a paste and are directly applied on the inflamed parts. This application reduces the pain and the itchiness of psoriatic inflammations.

- Onion (Allium cepa)

Onion has blood purifying properties. Hence, it is made an important part of the diet of a person suffering from psoriasis.

(2) Dietary Treatments for Psoriasis

A strict dietary regimen is very important in psoriasis. The wrong kind of foods can aggravate this condition, whereas the right foods can help in early treatment. The following dietary guidelines must be followed:-

- Avoid all hot, spicy and pungent foods. These take long time to digest and cause toxins in the blood, known as ama. When the ama builds up in the body, the psoriasis can spread to a great extent. Also, avoid all foods that cause constipation.

- Salts and curds must be avoided as they can inflame the skin further. This will cause greater itching and hence more discomfort. Rock salt can be taken in small quantities for flavoring, but not the salt readily available in the market.

- Cut down on fats, animal proteins and sugars. Also consume less quantity of food.

- Bitter tastes are preferable. These foods help in purifying the blood and also facilitate the kidneys to flush out the toxins from the blood. For this purpose, foods like bitter gourd, the bitter variety of drumstick and neem are very ideal.

(3) Ayurvedic Treatments for Psoriasis

The Panchkarma therapy is utilized in Ayurveda for the treatment of psoriasis. This is the first step because unless the toxins are removed from the body, it will not respond to any medication. In severe cases, purgation and bloodletting is done to cleanse the body internally. Oleation is employed using medicated ghee with bitter herbs. Commonly used herbs are neem, kutki and guduchi.

Once the purification of the body is done, Mahatikta ghrita or Panchatikta ghrita are prescribed to the person. The dosage is given in one teaspoon quantity twice a day for a month. Any guggulu preparation can be given together for better results.

There are also some popular Ayurvedic oils for external application. These are Mahamasha taila, Pinda taila, Kasisadi taila and Chandana Bala Lakshadi taila. Kushta Rakshasa taila is prescribed only for application when there is severe itching. This oil reduces the itchy sensation and prohibits the psoriasis from spreading.

(4) Home Remedies for Psoriasis

- Take one teaspoonful of sandalwood powder in three cups of water. Boil it till it is reduced to one-third the quantity, i.e. to one cup quantity. Add some rose water and sugar to it. Take this thrice a day.

- Make the powder of some almonds and boil them thoroughly in water. This is used for external application on the affected part. Keep it overnight and wash it next day with water.

- Shikakai (soap nut) boiled in water and applied on the affected parts also gives good relief.

- Attach a fresh thin banana leaf on the affected part.

- Fry thin slices of onion in ghee and eat them.

- Apply lime juice that has been diluted with water externally on the psoriatic patches.

- Cabbage soup is good for treatment of psoriasis. Drink one bowl of it everyday.

Exercise is good for psoriatic people, but care must be taken not to perform exercises like jogging and running which will put more pressure on the knees. Cycling and waling are good. Leading a sedentary life will aggravate the psoriasis further. It is also important to keep the mind stress-free through yoga. Stress can aggravate psoriasis.
