<p>More simply we gain weight if we consume more calories than those we burn.<br />In this case we say that we have a caloric surplus.</p>
<p>The opposite is true when we  have a caloric deficit.</p>
<p>Our caloric expenditure is the sum of :</p>
<p>-our caloric expenditure for sustaining our basal metabolism<br />-the one for our daily activities<br />-and of the energy burnt for thermogenesis</p>
<p><strong>What we have here is an eternal,perpetual law: consume more than what you need and you gain weight.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Let&#8217;s see some ramifications of the above statement:</strong></p>
<p>1.<strong>Suppose that we spend three hours  to train hard every day.We will   gain weight if we are in a positive energy balance.</strong><br />I have met tenths of people like this.People working really hard and in a very systematic way but their nutrition plan-if there is one-sucks.It is a great pity! So hard work going in vain!<br />And what&#8217;s more : their health  might be compromised in the long run.</p>
<p>2. <strong>Now  suppose we eat the best,more wholesome,healthier foods on the planet.We will still gain weight if we are in a positive energy balance.</strong></p>
<p>Maybe we are talking here for some health monsters but the kilos will still be kilos.</p>
<p>3. <strong>Let&#8217;s say now that we are spending all day on the sofa watching TV . We are going to lose weight if we are on a negative energy balance</strong>.<br />Maybe we are dramatically untrained couch potatoes but the very fact is that we will lose some weight.</p>
<p>4. <strong>And lastly let&#8217;s say that  we eat every day nothing else than the absolutely worst junk foods.Again we are going to lose some weight if we are in negative balance.</strong><br />Maybe we are in a dramatic position healthwise but it remains a fact that we will shed some weight.</p>
<p><strong>This is an immutable law!</strong></p>
<p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p>
<p>There are a lot of quality parameters in our diets that we can perfectly manipulate but the law of the energy balance is immutable!</p>
